Educating the Streets - Building Society

Mission

Educating the Streets – Building Society is a youth-centered social innovation project that aims to build the capacities of working children and youth in three dimensions - technical skills, education and personal skills - to improve their life opportunities while fostering engagement of the broader community - youth and organizations across multiple sectors - and shifting social dynamics for a more resilient society.

Vision

The vision of Educating the Streets – Building Society is a country without poverty and with strengthened social capital, in which all individuals can fully exercise their rights, participate and contribute as citizens, build their capabilities and have equal access to social, health, environment and economic opportunities.   Educating the Streets – Building Society is a program under Bosques Foundation, a Bolivian non-profit organization dedicated to the sustainable advancement in two non- excludable human development areas – poverty reduction and environmental sustainability. The foundation focuses on social innovation projects, policy advocacy and advisory to the public and private sectors, while being engaged in national and regional strategies for development. The foundation’s ultimate goal is to strengthen and assure a worthy live for all individuals and families, fostering and increasing citizen capacity and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen our community and society’s resiliency.

The program consists of an integrated approach combining the following activities that will help broaden the personal and (future) professional development opportunities available to working children:

1.    Technical Training & Marketable Activities

The children in our program will have the opportunity to receive training in various entrepreneurial and technical domains, which will be helpful to access the labor market in the future and fulfill their interests. The training is in partnership with several private sector organizations, and as part of a common shared value creation strategy. These capabilities are applied in building and selling marketable products or services.

2.    Education Support

Education support for the children will include both support in school subjects where the children have difficulties further information and education sessions on subjects related to the daily challenges the children are faced with.

 3.   Performing Arts & Sports: Personal, Physical and Social Skills Development

Educating the Streets – Building Society has developed a special curriculum with our theatre partner Hecho a Mano called Confident, Strong and Free, which is composed of several elements: body expression, vocal expression, acting, musical expression, mise-en-scene and creative collective techniques. Along with the opportunity to learn and play sports, the children will be able to develop their personal, physical and social skills through these activities.
